Giorgi Baramidze, the political secretary of the opposition party Unity - National Movement in Georgia, has criticized the ruling party's claims of maintaining international relations, describing them as "illusory." His remarks came in response to an open letter by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to former US President Donald Trump, a move Baramidze dismissed as symbolic and devoid of substance.
Baramidze accused the Georgian government of falsely portraying itself as engaged with the Western world while being fundamentally disconnected from it. "This criminal regime has not received anything from President Trump and his administration because they do not recognize them," he asserted, adding that while the United States may maintain diplomatic ties with various countries, including authoritarian regimes like Turkmenistan, this did not mean they hold meaningful agreements with Georgia's leadership.
The opposition politician went further, describing the government’s stated ambitions of joining the European Union and NATO as a "mirage," alleging that the ruling party, which he claimed is controlled by former Prime Minister and the GD honorary chair Bidzina Ivanishvili under Russian influence, had no genuine alignment with the Western world.
Baramidze also predicted that the government would eventually resort to conspiracy theories, claiming, "they will announce that President Trump has also been defeated by the deep state... only this Russian gang withstood the attacks."
