Georgian Education Minister meets top US education official to discuss expanding cooperation

Georgian Education Minister Givi Mikanadze met with US Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent in Washington to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the education sector.

The Ministry’s press office said Mikanadze briefed Kent on ongoing reforms in Georgia’s education system and emphasised the importance of sharing American experience in the process.

The Minister thanked Kent for the United States’ long-term support in promoting education and science development in Georgia, describing that cooperation as particularly important for the country.

The two sides also discussed the San Diego State University – Georgia project as a successful example of US-Georgia educational cooperation, as well as exchange programmes supported by the US Government, including the Fulbright Programme.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation.
