Education minister meets diaspora students enrolled in Georgian language programme

Georgia's Education, Science and Youth Minister Givi Mikanadze has met Georgian students and teachers living abroad who are taking part in an online programme aimed at preserving the Georgian language, history and culture among the country's diaspora.

The initiative, run by the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development, offers non-formal education through remote learning for Georgian children living overseas.

"It is a source of pride that young Georgians living abroad continue to show interest in the Georgian language, history and culture," Mikanadze said. He also thanked teachers participating in the programme for helping students maintain their connection to the Georgian language, national identity and homeland.

The minister said it was important for young Georgians abroad to remain familiar with the country's history and cultural heritage, adding that the government would continue supporting initiatives that strengthen national identity.

Students enrolled in the programme attend online classes in the Georgian language and learn about Georgia's history and culture. Lessons are delivered by qualified teachers selected and trained by the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development.

The programme is administered through the "Georgian Language for Emigrants" online portal, which allows students to register, choose a teacher and learning group, and access educational resources.

The platform, launched in September 2025, currently serves nearly 3,500 students living in countries including Germany, France, Italy, the United States, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada.
