Georgian Education Minister Givi Mikanadze on Monday hosted the Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral co-operation in education, science and youth affairs.

The Ministry’s press office said the meeting focused on the existing partnership between Georgia and Italy, as well as prospects for its further development.

Particular attention was given to the implementation of joint projects, including cooperation in the area of youth camps. The discussions also highlighted the expansion of Italian language teaching in Georgia and the growing interest in learning Italian, developments that are seen as further reinforcing educational and cultural ties between the two countries.

The parties also underlined the importance of deepening academic and scientific collaboration between Georgian and Italian higher education institutions.

In addition, they discussed the possibility of introducing Italian as an optional foreign language in Georgia’s Unified National Examinations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mikanadze expressed gratitude for the long-standing and productive cooperation between Georgia and Italy, while D’Antuono reaffirmed Italy’s readiness to expand collaboration further.
