Grigol Gegelia, a member of the opposition party Strong Georgia, says he was physically and verbally assaulted by an unknown man shortly after giving an interview to TV Pirveli.

According to Gegelia, the attacker followed him in a car and began filming him with a mobile phone before initiating the assault. “This was not a random encounter — he had clearly targeted me,” Gegelia told TV Pirveli. “He asked if I was a politician, then immediately started with insults, spitting, and eventually hit me in the head several times.”

Gegelia reported that he managed to remember the license plate number of the attacker’s vehicle and has already submitted the information to the police. He believes the incident was politically motivated and part of a broader campaign of intimidation against opposition voices.

“I’m staying strong, and I will remain strong — until this evil, cowardly regime is thrown onto the garbage heap of history. This is pure evil. The man failed to scare me. I gave the police his car number and will follow this case through to the end. He must be punished for what he did.,” Gegelia said.

He added that the attacker justified his aggression by claiming that supporters of former President Mikheil Saakashvili deserved verbal abuse, even within their own families. Gegelia dismissed the statement, saying, “The biggest supporter of Saakashvili is sitting inside the Georgian Dream party.”

Gegelia said the incident happened shortly after he had given an interview in a nearby yard. As he walked up a hill, the attacker drove slowly alongside him, already recording with a phone — indicating, in Gegelia’s words, that the assault was premeditated.
