Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has extended his congratulations to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the people of Georgia on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day, highlighting the close cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.

In a message released by the Government of Georgia on Monday, President Aliyev praised the historically rooted ties between Azerbaijan and Georgia, describing the bilateral relationship as one grounded in friendship, good-neighbourliness, and mutual support.

"We are pleased that our relations, based on these traditions, are successfully developing in all directions and deepening every year," Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani leader emphasised the growing political dialogue between Baku and Tbilisi, pointing to Kobakhidze’s recent visit to Azerbaijan and joint appearances on international platforms as a reflection of what he described as the "dynamic nature" of bilateral ties.

Aliyev also underlined the significance of major joint infrastructure projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. These, he noted, not only boost economic cooperation but also enhance regional stability and contribute to Europe's energy security.

"The large-scale infrastructure projects jointly implemented by Azerbaijan and Georgia create new opportunities for our countries and peoples," he said, adding that energy cooperation between the two states is helping reshape the continent’s energy landscape.

Concluding his message, President Aliyev expressed confidence in the continued advancement of the Azerbaijan-Georgia strategic partnership, wishing peace and prosperity to the Georgian people.

Georgia marks its Independence Day on 26 May, commemorating the adoption of the Act of Independence in 1918, which established the Democratic Republic of Georgia following the collapse of the Russian Empire.
