Police in Georgia’s western Imereti region have arrested two foreign nationals on charges of illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotics, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The suspects are citizens of Ukraine and Kazakhstan, the body added.

Law enforcement officers seized an especially large quantity of the narcotic substance methadone during searches of the suspects’ persons and temporary residences, as well as from locations identified by the detainees during an investigative experiment.

Police also confiscated materials allegedly intended for packaging narcotic substances.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
