Georgia’s Minister of Defence, Irakli Chikovani, met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces, General Gábor Böröndi, who is on an official visit to Georgia, the ministry announced.

During the meeting, Minister Chikovani expressed gratitude to Hungary for its steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He highlighted the positive dynamics in bilateral cooperation and underscored the importance of the joint declaration on strategic partnership and the defence cooperation document signed between the two countries.

According to the ministry, the officials reviewed the key areas of collaboration outlined in the bilateral cooperation plan between the Georgian and Hungarian defence ministries. Discussions also covered the current security environment in the region and globally.

Prior to the meeting, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defence for General Böröndi. He was hosted by Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces, who thanked Hungary for its contribution to Georgia’s defence transformation process and the successful implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP).

The talks also addressed cooperation in military education, joint training, and military medicine, with both sides outlining future prospects for deeper engagement.

During his two-day official visit, General Böröndi paid tribute to the memory of Georgian heroes who died defending the country’s territorial integrity, laying a wreath at the Heroes’ Memorial. The Hungarian delegation also visited the NATO–Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC) in Krtsanisi.
