Georgia’s parliamentary majority leader has welcomed the decision to grant priority status to the Black Sea submarine cable project, describing it as both expected and strategically significant.

Irakli Kirtskhalia on Tuesday said the project underscored Georgia’s geographic importance and its role in regional connectivity.

He stressed that the initiative was not only vital for Georgia, but also for Europe, particularly in terms of energy security and infrastructure links.

Kirtskhalia noted that the project’s importance had been clear from the outset, even at the early planning stage, and said stakeholders had long recognised its strategic value.

He added that the decision to grant the project priority status was “welcome and expected,” expressing confidence that it would be implemented in line with its significance.
