Kobakhidze said construction work on the project was continuing after what he described as a brief pause linked to revisions of contractual terms

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has claimed the completion of the first phase of the Anaklia deep-sea port project by 2029 was “absolutely realistic”.

Speaking on Monday, Kobakhidze said negotiations with a Singaporean consortium over the project were continuing and that no new tender process was currently planned.

He added the government still had time before needing to make a final decision on future cooperation arrangements, but he expected clarity on the matter “within the coming months” and no later than the end of the year.

Kobakhidze said construction work on the project was continuing after what he described as a brief pause linked to revisions of contractual terms.

He said the renegotiated agreement had significantly reduced the state’s financial obligations, particularly for dredging works and the construction of a breakwater.

The official further noted the reduction in projected costs temporarily slowed the process but allowed work to continue “at the appropriate intensity”.

Kobakhidze also said parallel work on railway and road infrastructure connected to the port project was progressing and remained on schedule.
