Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has described the arrest of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili as “personally very sad,” saying he cannot make further comments on the matter as it falls within the remit of the justice system.

“The only thing I can say is that, on a human level, this is very sad for me. I cannot comment further on this issue. This is a matter for the justice system,” Kobakhidze told journalists.

He reiterated his position, emphasising once again that, while he regrets what has happened on a personal level, the case should be addressed exclusively within the rule of law.
