Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday condemned the murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in the United States, calling it a “horrific and condemnable act” and using the incident to criticise what he termed “pseudo-liberals” in the modern world.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze said the daytime killing in a university courtyard underscores the direction in which such ideological forces are leading society. He noted that the murder was widely condemned by American politicians, representatives of the Trump administration, and President Donald Trump himself.

He went on to draw parallels with domestic political activism in Georgia, describing recent protests by opposition-backed groups in front of the Georgian Dream campaign headquarters as “disturbing” and accusing foreign-funded activists of promoting a dangerous ideology.

“These people have been led to such a state that it shows in their appearance and behaviour. Their response to violence abroad is alarming - they meet murder with laughter. This is shameful and dangerous,” he said.

Kobakhidze further linked the incident to broader criticisms of the opposition, referring to them as “agents funded from abroad” and suggesting that their moral and ethical corruption is reflected in their support for violence and extremist actions.

“This is a reminder that the so-called opposition is violent and dark at its core. Sociological research confirms that even knowing the violent tendencies of these groups, some continue to support them. That is how deeply this darkness is entrenched,” the Prime Minister concluded.
