Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze has claimed that Tbilisi “fully supports” peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the South Caucasus region.
Speaking to journalists at a joint briefing with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday, Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and stressed Georgia’s commitment to contributing positively to regional stability.
“Today, we discussed in detail issues related to both bilateral relations and the broader future of the South Caucasus. In this context, we welcome the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the region. We are always ready to contribute positively to these developments and facilitate dialogue and the peace process,” he said.
Kobakhidze also stressed the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, noting that relations between the two countries were developing dynamically. He thanked the Azerbaijani side for its “steadfast support” of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Our peoples share centuries of friendship and neighborly relations, which are naturally expressed through strategic partnership. Today’s discussions reinforced our commitment to cooperation, friendship, and dynamic development in various sectors. We particularly appreciate President Aliyev’s personal engagement, as well as the efforts of delegations, ministers, government representatives, and our ambassadors who contribute to these relations. Georgia, since regaining independence, has always been and will remain a firm supporter of Azerbaijan’s national interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” Kobakhidze added.
He also highlighted the strategic importance of transport and logistics infrastructure development, describing Georgia and Azerbaijan as key regional hubs connecting Europe and Asia.
“South Caucasus cooperation opens new perspectives for the entire region. Global political changes increase the importance of the Middle Corridor, including the Black Sea and South Caucasus as strategic spaces. Our countries have repeatedly proven to be reliable partners in international energy and transport projects,” Kobakhidze said.
