Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday expressed confidence that the country’s economic growth rate will significantly exceed six per cent by the end of 2026, following the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) decision to raise its growth forecast for Georgia to six per cent.
Responding to a journalist’s question, Kobakhidze pointed to strong economic performance during the first four months of the year, noting that preliminary growth reached 8.3 per cent.
“The figure for the first four months is higher than the initial forecast, standing at 8.3 per cent. Under these circumstances, it is logical that international financial institutions are revising their economic growth forecasts upwards,” the Prime Minister said.
“We have great hope and are also confident that the economic growth rate in our country will ultimately be much higher than six per cent by the end of the year,” he added.
Kobakhidze said major investment projects, including the recently launched Swissôtel Kobuleti Beach Resort on the country’s Black Sea coast, would contribute to Georgia’s economic performance, alongside a range of other Government initiatives aimed at stimulating growth.
He also highlighted anti-corruption efforts as a key factor supporting economic development.
“The elimination of corruption, particularly at a high level, which we have achieved over the past several months, will also be one of the main factors accelerating economic development in our country,” Kobakhidze said.
