Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said that “serious problems” have emerged within the justice systems of several European Union countries, arguing that against this backdrop Georgia “successfully” resisted what he described as an “artificial and coordinated” campaign aimed at interfering in the country’s judiciary.

Speaking to journalists in the United Arab Emirates, Kobakhidze stated that the campaign sought to undermine the independence of Georgia’s court system and create conditions for foreign interference.

“We successfully countered this campaign and did not allow anyone to undermine the independence of Georgian justice,” he said.

The Prime Minister added developments in several European countries demonstrate the scale of challenges facing their judicial systems. He cited Romania as an example, recalling a case in which presidential election results were annulled “without any grounds”.
