Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said Georgia and Tajikistan had placed particular emphasis on strengthening trade and economic cooperation during talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe.
Speaking at a joint briefing following the meeting, Kobakhidze said the two sides highlighted the potential for expanding bilateral economic ties and agreed that greater efforts were needed to deepen trade relations.
The Prime Minister noted that an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation had been established by mutual agreement and would serve as a key platform for advancing cooperation across various sectors.
Kobakhidze also said the discussions covered prospects for enhancing transport and logistics cooperation, with both sides underlining the importance of the Middle Corridor - a trade route linking Europe and China via the South Caucasus and Central Asia - and the need to attract additional cargo flows along the route.
The Prime Minister noted the parties also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in tourism and stressed the importance of maintaining high-level political dialogue and reciprocal visits to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Kobakhidze invited Rahmon to pay an official visit to Georgia and expressed hope that the visit would take place in the near future.
