Georgia’s government plans to sell certain public sector buildings to fund the construction of new facilities, a move Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze claimed will stimulate economic activity, he announced at a briefing at the Government Administration.

Kobakhidze explained that improving working conditions for public servants is a priority, and that combining new construction with the sale of existing administrative buildings would have a dual economic effect.

“We have a plan whereby certain agency buildings may be sold so that we can build new ones, which will doubly boost economic activity. The specific institutions involved have not yet been determined. Economic activity will come both from the construction of new buildings, supporting broader economic development, and from the sale of administrative buildings for investment purposes,” Kobakhidze said.

He added that the initiative aimed to generate additional economic growth even from a starting point of limited activity, creating incentives for investment and infrastructure development.
