Georgian Dream Chair and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said the ruling party derives its legitimacy from the Georgian people, adding this is demonstrated through democratic elections and continued public support.

In a social media post marking the 14th anniversary of the party’s founding, Kobakhidze said that protecting Georgia’s sovereignty and maintaining an independent political course remain among the Government’s top priorities amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.

“Challenges certainly remain, especially in the context of the modern world order, where geopolitical interests often intersect with the national interests of small and developing states. In such circumstances, one of the main challenges for Georgia and for our political team remains the protection of sovereignty and the preservation of an independent political course,” Kobakhidze wrote.

He said the ruling party’s main responsibility is to guide the country in a direction that reflects the demands of Georgian citizens.

“Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia derives its legitimacy from the Georgian people, which is confirmed year after year through democratic elections and public support. Accordingly, the main task of our political team is naturally to develop the country in a direction that responds to the demands of citizens,” he said.

Kobakhidze also pointed to what he described as repeated attempts to influence domestic developments in Georgia through political, economic and informational pressure, stressing the importance of making decisions based solely on national interests.

According to him, the legitimacy granted by the public has enabled Georgia to build “a strong foundation and a clear vision for development.”

Congratulating party members and supporters on the anniversary, Kobakhidze said that “even greater goals and opportunities” lie ahead, adding that these would help strengthen the country further.
