Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has accused Lelo party leader Mamuka Khazaradze of attempting to conceal that he had leased his private residence to Germany’s ambassador in Tbilisi Peter Fischer, arguing that the act was politically motivated and “completely inappropriate” from a diplomatic standpoint.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Kobakhidze claimed the matter was driven “not so much by financial interests as by political motives,” asserting that Khazaradze did not want the information made public due to its sensitive political implications. He added that a stronger response from Germany would have been “preferable.”

“Unfortunately, such a thing occurred,” Kobakhidze said. “We are seeing unethical behavior from certain diplomats, which reflects the difficult situation that has emerged within the European bureaucracy.”

Kobakhidze also reiterated his view that Lelo had engaged in alleged unconstitutional actions and expressed confidence that the Constitutional Court could rule accordingly - though he emphasized that the final decision rested with the court.
