Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday accused non-governmental organisations of attempting to orchestrate “revolutionary processes” in Georgia with foreign funding, describing their actions as unconstitutional and anti-state.
Speaking to journalists in western Adjara region, Kobakhidze declined to comment on the details of Transparency International Georgia head Eka Gigauri’s questioning in an ongoing sabotage case, saying it was a matter for law enforcement agencies.
“Everyone knows well that NGOs were directly involved in anti-state activities. They tried to drive revolutionary processes with foreign financing. The rest will be assessed by law enforcement agencies,” the PM said.
Kobakhidze recalled Gigauri’s public appearance in June 2022, after the EU declined to grant Georgia candidate status.
“For example, I personally remember Gigauri, from Transparency International, taking the stage in June 2022 and calling not only for the resignation of the Government but also for the formation of a new one with her involvement. That is not the role of NGOs. They attempted to steer revolutionary processes with foreign funding - something absolutely unconstitutional and anti-state. The rest will be judged by law enforcement,” he stated.
