Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has called for a reset in US-Georgia strategic relations, urging a renewed partnership based on mutual benefit and clarity. Speaking to journalists during a visit to Budapest, Kobakhidze emphasized the need for a clearly defined roadmap to guide the bilateral relationship.
“We want to renew our strategic partnership with the United States from a clean slate, with a concrete roadmap that outlines mutual benefits for both countries,” he said. “This is a clear and transparent message, and there is no alternative to a positive response.”
Kobakhidze also expressed hope for the return of the Trump administration, suggesting that such a shift in Washington is essential for revitalizing ties with Georgia. He characterized the US political establishment as being divided between the so-called "Deep State" and Trump’s circle.
“The two congratulatory letters [to Georgia] best illustrated the confrontation between the Trump administration and the ‘Deep State’,” he said, referencing a recent letter from Senator Marco Rubio and another from former President Donald Trump. “The first letter, sent in Rubio’s name, was clearly influenced by the Deep State. Then came President Trump’s letter, which was prepared with full adherence to protocol.”
Kobakhidze claimed that the 'Deep State' remains a powerful force with considerable resources and framed the hoped-for return of Trump’s team as a prerequisite for truly recharging US-Georgian ties.
“Our message is known to both the public and the American side. We will patiently await the US position, but we are hopeful that the renewal of this partnership can be achieved” he stated.
