Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has congratulated the public on the New Year, wishing citizens “more love, kindness, peace, health, happiness and progress” in 2026.
In his New Year’s address, Kobakhidze said the New Year is a time when people welcome the future with hope for fulfilled dreams and achieved goals, expressing his wishes for every family to see their aspirations come true.
The Prime Minister said 2025 was a year “full of challenges” but ultimately a “successful” one for Georgia. He noted that the country further strengthened peace, independence and sovereignty, while the Georgian economy surpassed ₾100 billion ($37.26bln) for the first time in history. He also highlighted that the past year was pivotal in improving the system of public governance and reinforcing the rule of law.
Kobakhidze said the foundations laid in 2025 create solid preconditions for even greater success in the coming year. He emphasised that 2026 will be particularly significant for Georgia, as the country will mark the 1,700th anniversary of Christianity being declared the state religion, calling Christianity a key pillar of Georgia’s identity, culture and faith.
The Prime Minister also extended New Year greetings to Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, noting his decades-long contribution to strengthening the country and congratulated citizens across Georgia, including those living abroad, as well as the Russian-occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali.
Concluding his message, Kobakhidze underlined that love is the core value of Christianity and the foundation of both personal and national strength, wishing the public a peaceful, healthy and prosperous 2026.
