Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated on Tuesday that Georgia's "radical opposition" has become “completely discredited” in the eyes of the public and is “doomed to a heavy defeat” in any political configuration ahead of the 2025 local elections.
Speaking to journalists in the Samegrelo region, Kobakhidze said the opposition’s internal divisions and alleged anti-state actions have alienated voters and undermined their own political standing.
“The public sees everything clearly and evaluates it accordingly. That’s why the radical opposition in our country is absolutely discredited,” the Prime Minister said. “These people have spent the past four years working against Georgia’s national interests. They did everything to prevent us from obtaining EU candidate status and tried to sabotage the launch of accession negotiations.”
Kobakhidze also pointed to recent infighting among opposition parties as proof of their instability: “They’re insulting each other over decisions to participate in the upcoming municipal elections. But frankly, we’re not interested in their conflicts. In any configuration and format, we will win all 64 municipalities with a large margin—both in mayoral and city council races.”
He added that internal polling and the general political climate show growing public support for the ruling Georgian Dream party, while the opposition continues to lose ground.
“In these conditions, no one should be surprised that the opposition is now even weaker than it was a year before the last parliamentary elections. They are headed for a significant defeat,” Kobakhidze concluded.
