Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has declared that the country’s “entire radical opposition spectrum” is significantly weakened and now turning against each other amid internal divisions and political irrelevance.

Speaking to Georgian journalists in Hungary, Kobakhidze argued that the post-election landscape has left the opposition fractured and marginalized, largely due to their refusal to take up parliamentary mandates in 2020 — a decision he attributed to “external instructions.”

“The opposition’s infighting is a sign of weakness. They are extremely weakened as a result of the processes that followed the elections,” Kobakhidze stated. “They were forced to stay out of Parliament based on external directives, and in doing so, they lost their main platform — a political party’s essential tool for influence.”

The Prime Minister said the 'radical opposition' now finds itself in a self-destructive loop, no longer able to effectively challenge the ruling party.

“This entire radical opposition field is completely weakened, and in their weakness, they are now attacking each other,” he added.

Kobakhidze dismissed speculation about opposition parties’ potential participation in the upcoming local elections, asserting that full-fledged elections will proceed regardless of who chooses to run.

“For us, it’s not a matter of concern who participates in the elections and who does not — either way, comprehensive and democratic elections will take place in Georgia,” he concluded.
