Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to European integration while emphasising the importance of pursuing this path with dignity, as he spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest.
Kobakhidze highlighted the central role of faith in shaping Georgia’s values, culture, and moral vision over the centuries. He said that Christianity has been an inseparable part of Georgian history and noted that 2026 marks the 1,700th anniversary of its declaration as the state religion.
“Faith has provided strength and guidance for generations, helping our people overcome challenges and preserve their identity through difficult periods in history,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that Georgia’s Christian cultural foundation remains a central part of the country’s identity. Historically, Georgians have viewed Europe as a space where their Christian identity could be safeguarded.
“Accordingly, Georgia remains committed to the path of European integration, but we pursue it with dignity - fully respecting our heritage, faith, independence and sovereignty, which is, in itself, a complex task,” Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing hope that Europe would restore its own sovereignty, Christian identity and economic strength by the time Georgia becomes a member of the European Union.
