Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday said deepening cooperation with Central Asian countries was of "special importance" for Georgia, highlighting the country's role as a transit corridor linking the region with the Black Sea and Western markets.
Speaking to Georgian journalists during his visit to Tajikistan, Kobakhidze said Georgia serves as a gateway connecting seven countries to the Black Sea and, consequently, to the Western economic space, making the development of regional partnerships strategically important.
The Prime Minister noted that strengthening ties with Tajikistan was part of a broader effort to expand cooperation across Central Asia. He recalled his recent visit to Kyrgyzstan and announced an upcoming trip to Kazakhstan, while adding that the presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are expected to visit Georgia in July.
According to Kobakhidze, the growing engagement with Central Asian nations will support the development of Georgia's transit and connectivity functions, alongside ongoing investments aimed at enhancing transport infrastructure and regional connectivity.
He also highlighted Georgia's close relations with neighbouring countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey and said the expansion of ties with Central Asian states would help the country make better use of its economic potential.
"These processes will help Georgia move significantly forward in realising its economic opportunities. This remains one of our top priorities," Kobakhidze said.
