Member of the European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė expressed concern over the growing number of political prisoners in Georgia, following a meeting with the families of detainees in Tbilisi.
"Bidzina Ivanishvili's prisons hold students, actors, journalists, politicians, and many others simply because they participated in demonstrations," Juknevičienė wrote on X, referring to the ruling Georgian Dream party founder, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.
The MEP is part of a European Parliament delegation currently visiting Georgia amid heightened tensions and international criticism over the reported crackdown on civil liberties in the country.
The delegation met with relatives of detained protestors, drawing attention to the growing repression of voices opposing the ruling Georgian Dream party. Juknevičienė and her colleagues emphasized the EU’s solidarity with the Georgian people and called for the immediate release of all political prisoners.
