Georgia’s Interior Ministry has announced officers from the Old Tbilisi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department had arrested nine citizens of Kazakhstan on charges of unlawful deprivation of liberty committed by a group.

The suspects allegedly devised a criminal plan and unlawfully detained a fellow Kazakhstan national, identified as D.A., born in 2004.

Investigators said the victim was physically assaulted and threatened with death unless he paid the group 30,000 US dollars.

Law enforcement officers arrested all nine suspects shortly after the alleged offence during operative measures and investigative actions carried out in immediate pursuit, the ministry said.
