Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has criticised Germany’s ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, alleging that his presence at a recent anti-Government protest “goes beyond diplomatic activity” and accusing him of encouraging “violent groups.”

Speaking to the media Friday, Kaladze questioned how an ambassador in “any developed country” could be involved in what he described as the “incitement of violent groups,” claiming that Fischer’s actions exceeded the norms of diplomatic conduct.

Kaladze reiterated accusations that what he called the “deep state” had representatives in Georgia who, in his words, coordinated protest groups.

“We know the deep state has its representatives here. They directly lead violent groups and coordinate their actions,” he said.

The mayor described Fischer as “an instigator,” adding that the ambassador’s recent public appearances were “not diplomacy by any standard.”

Asked about Fischer’s earlier recall to Berlin for consultations and his subsequent return, Kaladze said he had “no interest” in the matter, insisting that the core issue was the ambassador’s conduct in Georgia.

“It makes no difference to me where he was recalled or returned from. The main problem is that instead of performing diplomatic duties, he is doing everything but that,” he said.
