A powerful explosion near a police station in Indian-administered Kashmir has killed nine people and injured 29, authorities said on Saturday.

The incident occurred last night when explosives seized by police detonated.

An anonymous source told Reuters that most of the victims were police personnel, including forensic experts who were examining the explosives.

A police official added that the blast sparked a fire in the surrounding area, prompting deployment of fire and rescue teams.

“Identification of the bodies is underway, as some were completely burned”, the source said.
