The head of Caucasus Medical Centre, Sophio Aspanidze, on Tuesday said the health condition of Patriarch Ilia II remains critical, with unstable and concerning haemodynamic indicators.
Speaking about the patient’s condition, Aspanidze said the Patriarch is currently on mechanical ventilation and being treated in the intensive care unit.
She added that the patient had been admitted with massive bleeding and underwent all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to stop it. The bleeding has since been controlled.
“The patient is currently in the critical care unit. His haemodynamic parameters are unstable and require close monitoring. A multidisciplinary team is managing the case and working to stabilise his condition,” she said.
According to the medical team, the patient is intubated and in a medically induced state of rest, a standard procedure aimed at allowing the body to stabilise vital functions.
Aspanidze also noted that the Patriarch sought medical assistance at around 03:00 local time. He will remain in hospital for as long as necessary, she added.
