Former US special envoy Keith Kellogg has announced plans to visit Ukraine in the coming weeks, saying the trip is likely to take place after a scheduled visit to Japan.

Responding to a journalist’s question, Kellogg said the visit to Ukraine could happen in around six weeks’ time.

“Probably in about a month and a half. My daughter was there for two weeks. So we will go to Japan first and then to Ukraine,” he said.

Unlike many other officials, Kellogg has openly condemned Russia following its bombardment of Ukraine. During a previous visit to Kyiv, Russian attacks were temporarily halted, a development that was widely noted at the time.

Kellogg was among the relatively small number of figures within US President Donald Trump’s team who spoke directly about Russia’s aggression. He repeatedly sought to convey to the US President that Moscow was unwilling to end the war and that increased pressure on Russia was necessary.
