Levan Gordeziani, a professor at Tbilisi State University, criticized the government’s decision to merge TSU and Georgian Technical University, saying such decisions cannot be made without consulting universities and the academic community.
“This goes against what the education system should represent today. Education should produce educated, free-thinking individuals, but this approach opposes that. No matter how well it is organized, this method is unacceptable. Certain details are misunderstood or unknown, and many will suffer as a result. Some specific aspects could have negative consequences if implemented,” Gordeziani said.
He added, “The goal is clear-control.”
The government recently announced the merger of Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University under the ruling party’s reform plan.
