Levan Machavariani, Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, has claimed that reports about German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer holding a secret meeting with radical activists should not come as a surprise.

Speaking to the media, Machavariani said there was “specific information” that Fischer had met with radical groups, alleging that the Ambassador had previously appeared alongside activists at protests and court hearings in an attempt to exert psychological pressure on judges.

“Nothing about Mr Fischer is surprising,” Machavariani said, claiming that the Ambassador had repeatedly associated himself with radical activists and had openly supported protest actions. He further alleged that Fischer had taken photographs with individuals accused of verbally abusing the Georgian Orthodox Church and harassing public figures, as well as attending court proceedings to influence judicial processes.

Machavariani also claimed that one of the activists allegedly involved in the meeting was Luka Mishveladze, whom he described as a radical figure and a member of Girchi–More Freedom. According to Machavariani, the meeting was “closed and secret” and included discussions about intensifying protests, including references to developments in Iran and the possibility of escalating tensions to revive public momentum. These claims have not been independently verified.

Earlier, television channel Imedi reported that Ambassador Fischer met several protest activists at the German Embassy on Thursday, alleging that the discussions focused on protest financing, future strategy and so-called “Iranian scenarios.” The individuals named as participants confirmed the meeting took place but denied the claims, stating that the discussion focused on Georgia’s European integration.

In response, Ambassador Fischer rejected the allegations, calling them false and disinformation. In a social media post, he said that no discussion of “Iranian scenarios” took place at the meeting and stressed that the talks focused on young people’s concerns about Georgia’s stalled path towards the European Union.
