Machavariani also repeated claims that the European Union had effectively paused Georgia’s EU integration process

Levan Machavariani, First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream parliamentary faction has accused international partners of politically targeting Georgia through the use of the OSCE’s Moscow Mechanism, during a parliamentary session in Tbilisi involving the foreign minister.

The MP claimed the mechanism - traditionally activated within the OSCE framework to investigate alleged human rights violations - was being applied selectively and unfairly against Georgia. He argued this reflected broader political pressure from Western institutions and was part of what he described as coordinated external efforts to influence the country’s internal politics.

Machavariani also repeated claims that the European Union had effectively paused Georgia’s EU integration process and linked this to domestic legislation passed by the government, including laws on foreign funding transparency and restrictions on what officials describe as LGBT propaganda.

He further alleged that NGOs and European institutions were contributing to domestic unrest and promoting destabilisation efforts in Georgia - claims that EU officials and Western governments have consistently rejected.
