The chair of the parliamentary committee on European integration, Levan Makhashvili, has dismissed a report prepared under the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Moscow Mechanism, describing it as a compilation of “unfounded accusations”.

Speaking about the document on Friday, Makhashvili said the report contained political assessments rather than evidence-based legal conclusions.

“This document contains political evaluations beyond the scope of evidence, not legal conclusions supported by proof. Accepting these recommendations would mean that the state renounces its sovereignty and transfers decision-making powers to foreign actors. Georgia will not do that,” he said.

Makhashvili also rejected claims that the mechanism could lead to legal proceedings in the International Criminal Court in The Hague, calling such suggestions speculation.

“The Moscow Mechanism has nothing in common with the court in The Hague. These claims are pure speculation. If anyone has evidence, they should use legal mechanisms rather than engage in speculation,” he said, adding that referring the matter to The Hague would have no legal basis.

The OSCE recently published the report under the Moscow Mechanism framework examining developments in Georgia since the spring of 2024 in relation to human rights and fundamental freedoms, and outlining a series of recommendations.
