The Georgian Government is doing “everything necessary” to fulfill its international obligations, including ensuring the proper functioning of visa-free travel with the European Union, said Levan Makhashvili, the chair of Georgia’s parliamentary Committee on European Integration.

Makhashvili added the so-called “street opposition” was focused on “idleness” and “harmful” activities, attempting to create problems where none exist in order to serve their own political goals.

“They are trying to invent problems out of nothing and damage society for their political purposes. We have seen multiple protests announced. Today is August 31, tomorrow is September 1, and Georgia will continue its development in the usual way. Based on objective criteria, there is no threat to this process”, he said

“The Georgian government has submitted the completed questionnaire and recommendations requested by the European Commission. We continue working with the EU both to safeguard visa-free travel and to protect Georgia’s national interests”, Makhashvili added.
