Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda says that the EU leaders should have given Ukraine candidate status at a summit in Versailles yesterday.

“I wish Ukraine gets the candidate status now… but it was not possible today, but we will come back to this issue,” Nauseda told journalists as he arrived for a second day of talks.

The EU has given a green light to Ukraine’s membership to the bloc, but not in an accelerated manner.

Ukraine submitted an application for EU membership shortly after Russia invaded the country.
