Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Wednesday said Brussels’ approach toward the country appears “quite wrong”, adding political dialogue between Georgia and the European Union remains necessary despite strained relations.
“We believe the approach toward Georgia is completely unfair. In the absence of political dialogue, and given the decision from Brussels to suspend it, Georgia has been operating in this format for over a year,” she told Rustavi 2.
The Minister added Georgia continues to maintain and develop relations with EU member states bilaterally, which she described as “very important both for Georgia and for Europe.”
Botchorishvili argued that broader geopolitical developments underline the need for closer cooperation, pointing to shared interests between Georgia and the European Union.
“In the context of ongoing global processes, Europe’s needs and our region’s potential are increasingly visible. Against this background, this kind of approach from Brussels appears quite wrong,” she said.
The Minister added while the Government considers the situation unjust, there are “objective reasons” why dialogue between Georgia and the EU should continue, noting that many European partners still support active engagement with Georgia.
