Head of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) Nika Melia, who is running for Tbilisi mayor in today’s municipal elections, has stated at a polling station that Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili ‘has revealed all features of a real patriot and ultimate devotion’ when he returned to Georgia ahead of elections.

He said that the opposition is ‘getting ready for everything which is needed for the country.’

Saakashvili was arrested in Tbilisi late yesterday and is now in Rustavi 12th prison.

He has urged voters to cast ballots for the UNM to ‘end the Georgian Dream regime.’

Saakashvili says that he returned to Georgia after eight years despite the threat  he would be ‘unlawfully arrested.’
