MEP Viola von Cramon says that it is heartbreaking to see Georgia continue backsliding on democracy, responding to Georgia’s deteriorated score in the recent democracy index.

“Moldova and even Ukraine and Armenia are doing better. Georgia once used to be a role model in the region but now it keeps falling down towards authoritarian neighbors like  Russia, Azerbaijan and Lukashenko’s Belarus,” Cramon has tweeted.

According to a survey by the Economist’s partner company, the Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index, Georgia’s score deteriorated from 5.31 to 5.12 compared to last year.

Georgia ranks 91st among 167 countries, as in the previous year.
