German Chancellor Merz: war in Ukraine could last several more months, we must be prepared

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday said he did not rule out the possibility that Russia’s war against Ukraine could last for several more months.

“This war may last several more months. In any case, we must prepare for this, and we are ready”, Merz said.

He stressed that maintaining the work of the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ remained a key priority, while reaffirming that Ukraine’s partners were prepared to continue supporting the country.

Merz on Thursday also noted a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin was unlikely to take place.
