Differences should strengthen society, not divide it, Eminence Grigol

Metropolitan Grigol of Poti and Khobi has called for differences among people to be seen as a source of strength rather than division, saying diversity of character, abilities and views should enrich society instead of becoming a cause of hostility.

Speaking during a sermon marking the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Eminence Grigol said the two apostles demonstrated how Christianity unites people of different backgrounds, personalities and intellectual abilities.

“The differences between people should not become a source of anxiety, distress or, even more so, bitterness. For wise people, they are a form of richness that enables us to strengthen and reinforce the society of which we are all members,” he said.

The top cleric further noted that members of the Church, including the Apostles Peter and Paul, had held differing views, citing their disagreement at the Council of Jerusalem as an example.

He said no two people were the same, pointing to differences in character, talents, perspectives and analytical abilities, and stressed that such diversity should contribute to the unity of the Church and society.

He also urged the faithful to continue their spiritual efforts after the end of the fasting period and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their faith despite life's challenges.

“Stand firm and unshaken. With determination, dedication, faith, hope and love, we will overcome everything. God is with us,” he said.
