Employees of the Migration Department and the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained 14 foreign nationals following joint, large-scale operations.
The Interior Ministry said the detainees are citizens of Bangladesh, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Morocco. Authorities established that the individuals were staying in Georgia without legal grounds, in violation of the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
The Ministry said the detainees had abused asylum-related procedures, allowing them to remain in the country for years without a lawful basis. They also failed to comply with previously issued expulsion decisions, which required them to leave Georgia voluntarily within a specified timeframe.
As a result, the Migration Department decided to detain the individuals. They have now been placed in the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Centre pending their return to their countries of origin.
