The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the detention of nine foreign nationals as part of a targeted immigration control operation aimed at curbing illegal migration.

The Ministry said that officers from its Migration Department conducted a special operation based on prior intelligence, inspecting specific locations to identify individuals residing in the country without legal status.

According to the Ministry, the detained individuals include citizens of Nigeria, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and India. Authorities determined that they were in violation of Georgia’s Law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”.

The detained individuals have been placed in the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre while procedures for their deportation are underway.
