Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said he had met the United States Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, during a dinner hosted on behalf of US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

Writing on social media on Wednesday, Kavelashvili described the exchange as “friendly” and said he used the opportunity to deliver “a message from the Georgian people.”

He said he told Lutnick that the “silence” of the current US administration over developments in Georgia raised questions among the public, adding that Georgia’s government and the Trump administration shared “value-based alignment on fundamental issues.”

According to Kavelashvili, Lutnick assured him that he would pass on his remarks to members of the Trump administration.
