Georgian president meets Turkish parliament speaker in Ankara

Both sides discussed regional security challenges in the context of the Russia–Ukraine war

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has met the Speaker of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, during his official visit to Ankara.
The two held a one-on-one meeting to discuss bilateral and multilateral relations, as well as prospects for deeper cooperation across various sectors, Kavelashvili’s press office announced on Wednesday.
Kavelashvili thanked Turkey for its support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said Tbilisi was interested in convening the next meeting of the countries’ High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The talks also touched on the situation in the South Caucasus. The Georgian president reiterated his country’s support for a “peaceful coexistence formula” in the region and welcomed steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia towards a peace agreement.
Both sides discussed regional security challenges in the context of the Russia–Ukraine war, and reviewed economic cooperation. Kavelashvili described existing regional and strategic projects as examples of “effective cooperation, sustainable development and reliable partnership” between Georgia and Turkey.
The Georgian president is in Ankara with his wife on an official visit, during which he also held meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in both one-on-one and extended formats.
