Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili has expressed support for a planned opposition rally, saying the demonstration deserved backing from both party supporters and non-partisan citizens.

In a social media post published on Monday, Saakashvili said those opposed to what he described as Georgia’s “humiliation and destruction” should stand together regardless of political differences.

“Even if we do not like certain politicians, we must stand together,” he wrote.

Saakashvili added that while there were many things he personally did not agree with, public protest required unity and solidarity.

He also said it was important for the demonstrations to continue beyond one-off actions and pledged to keep expressing his views publicly.
