Georgia’s third president Mikheil Saakashvili urged opposition leaders to end divisions and coordinate joint international outreach efforts, saying unity was crucial for the nation’s future.
Saakashvili has called on opposition leaders to stop acting separately and to present a united front both at home and abroad. Writing on social media, Saakashvili said that opposition trips to Western capitals should no longer resemble “self-casting sessions,” but rather a coordinated effort to “save the country.”
“We must stop traveling abroad separately. These visits are not about self-promotion — they are about the survival of our country. We must go together, as one front. Traveling individually leaves a bad impression on our European and American friends,” Saakashvili wrote.
The former president also criticized public infighting within opposition media platforms, saying that some groups used financial resources to promote themselves while attacking others.
“We must stop attacking each other on opposition TV channels. Some groups use money to boost their own visibility and discredit others - this harms our common cause,” he said.
Saakashvili added that personal grievances and past rivalries must be set aside in the name of unity against the ruling party and its founder, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
“We must forget old resentments - who stood where and when. Our target should be Ivanishvili. Some claim I called other opposition figures ‘sellouts.’ That is a lie - it’s not even my terminology. Whatever mistakes were made in alliances in the past no longer matter. Our direction now is the same, and we must walk together toward victory. Strength lies in unity,” Saakashvili concluded.
