Georgia’s Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze on Tuesday said the condition of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II remains “very serious and highly concerning,” with “significant work” still needed to stabilise his haemodynamic parameters.

Sarjveladze stressed the Patriarch is in intensive care, where vital signs are currently being maintained medically under continuous monitoring.

The minister said the condition is linked to a gastric ulcer-related pathology that caused severe bleeding. Emergency intervention was carried out, and doctors managed to stop the bleeding, though the patient’s overall state remains critical.

Medical teams are now focused on stabilising essential physiological functions, a process the minister described as crucial at this stage.

Ilia II was hospitalised at Caucasus Medical Center after his condition deteriorated overnight, according to the Georgian Patriarchate.
